A bit about the Library…

The Library is part of the wider Directorate of Student and Academic Support (DSAS). DSAS colleagues work together, and in partnership with our academic staff, to deliver flexible services that enhance our students’ experience and enable them to thrive while they are studying at Salford.

The Library is a bustling 24-hour operation where learning is at the core of everything we do. Yes, we have the books, the archives and the DVDs, but our library is also the beating heart of campus life: spaces for learning and collaboration, friendly faces, specialist knowhow, and a virtual hub for knowledge and discovery. We’re here to help all those who study with us to ‘arrive a student, leave an expert’.

About the role

Working within our Learning & Research Support team, this role is an exciting opportunity to help drive the development of a new numeracy support offer that really works for our degree apprentices and wider student bodyYou will create and curate engaging online and face-to-face learning activities and resources that help students develop the essential maths skills they need for their studies and the workplace

So we need your experience in numeracy and maths education and your understanding of the barriers to learning to make sure we’re setting students up to succeed. You will be passionate about supporting people to develop their skills and build their confidence, and you’ll know how to create an inclusive learning experience where everyone feels engaged and inspired to learn.

Working in partnership is key to how we work, so you will need to be an engaging communicator with a collaborative approach, always looking to connect and build positive relationships with a diverse range of people. You will enjoy working at a fast pace and on new challenges, always seeking out new and better ways of doing things in the interests of the University and our students.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the opportunity in more detail, please contact Serena Chester, Academic Support Manager (Teaching and Learning) at s.chester@salford.ac.uk.

Please ensure you provide evidence in your cover letter/personal statement on how you meet the criteria in the attached person specification.

What’s in it for you?

With over 200 languages spoken across Greater Manchester, we want to create an inspirational, inclusive learning and working environment, celebrating the diversity of our University community in our everyday conversations.  Our student population is already incredibly diverse and we want to ensure this is reflected across our colleague profile as well.

To help you, we have wide ranging colleague support networks, promoting awareness events throughout the year and giving you the opportunity to share your experiences with others. Our extensive faith centre facilities reflect our continuing commitment to support the student and colleague experience and the beliefs and values you bring to our community.

There is a varied benefits package available through ‘MySalford’ where you can tailor your benefits to suit your own lifestyle – everything from additional annual leave, savings on High Street shopping, travel discounts as well as health and wellbeing support. To maintain work/life balance, when appropriate you can connect to work from wherever you are. Flexibility on working from home is supported where possible, however the role will be based on the University of Salford campus.

However you identify, whatever your pathway has been to get here, come and join us at the University of Salford where we are all proud to belong -  watch us in action here!
