A bit about the Counselling and Wellbeing Team…

Student experience is at the heart of everything we do. We engage with our students in a creative customer led, flexible and innovative way, whilst anticipating and responding to the needs of our diverse community. Our Counselling and Wellbeing team is a high-performing team which has consistently innovated over the years to ensure our model provides an excellent service to students.

We now wish to appoint a Wellbeing Adviser with diverse skills and experiences who will strengthen our team by sharing our passion for providing continuous support to our diverse student community.

So what will the role involve?

  • To provide wellbeing support to students – focused on strategies, action plans and different way of working.
  • To receive and respond appropriately to reports of student health and wellbeing incidents, taking appropriate action to secure, if possible, the retention of students, with the best interests of students in mind.
  • To carry out harm to self or others risk assessments with students and act on this appropriately and within university policy. To be able to assess students for suitability of the service and triage to other services where appropriate.
  • To liaise with statutory health organisations, both primary and secondary care, to ensure appropriate referral and support for students in their navigation through such care systems.
  • To act in an advisory capacity to other staff members, especially academic schools, in supporting students with their wellbeing needs.

The role requires interaction with students from different cultural backgrounds and with that in mind, it is important that you have experience of working with diverse backgrounds whether that is through your previous work history or in your personal life.

You are very welcome to contact Rachel Challinor, Student Support Manager  at r.j.challinor@salford.ac.uk for an informal discussion.

Applications will be via submission of a supporting statement, showing how you evidence the attributes contained within the Person Specification, allied to an up to date CV.

Please note, there is also one fixed-term opportunity available until 31st July 2022.

     What’s in it for you?

With over 200 languages spoken across Greater Manchester, we want to create an inspirational, inclusive learning and working environment, celebrating the diversity of our University community in our everyday conversations.  Our student population is already incredibly diverse and we want to ensure this is reflected across our colleague profile as well.

To help you, we have wide ranging colleague support networks, promoting awareness events throughout the year and giving you the opportunity to share your experiences with others. Our extensive faith centre facilities reflect our continuing commitment to support the student and colleague experience and the beliefs and values you bring to our community.

There is a varied benefits package available through ‘MySalford’ where you can tailor your benefits to suit your own lifestyle – everything from additional annual leave, savings on High Street shopping, travel discounts as well as health and wellbeing support. To maintain work/life balance, when appropriate you can connect to work from wherever you are. Whether it’s our Peel Park Campus, MediaCityUK or your couch at home, the tools are there for you to do your best work. Flexibility on working from home is supported where possible, however the role will be based on the University of Salford Peel Park campus.

However you identify, whatever your pathway has been to get here, come and join us at the University of Salford where we are all proud to belong -  watch us in action here!
