This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Engineering graduate to fast-track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate.  The successful candidate will undertake a 30-month collaborative project between GreenJets Limited (an aerospace SME based in Bedfordshire) and the University of Salford (Acoustics Research Centre, School of Science, Engineering and Environment).

This post is a dynamic role looking to develop a rapid and easy-to-use conceptual toolset to predict and analyse the noise signature of electric propulsion systems; leading to the design and manufacture of a new generation of quieter and zero-carbon electric jet engines to power drones.

Based in Oakley, Bedfordshire, MK43 7TA, you will be supported by the staff from the company and an academic team from the University of Salford whilst undertaking scientific research work.  In addition to working in a commercial company in close contact with other staff, you as the Associate will gain experience of being a key player within the growth of the business.

This KTP will enable Greenjets Limited to appropriately address the noise issues of their products through:

  • Comprehensive acoustic dataset with the identification of opportunities for low noise designs.
  • Modelling tool for a high-level assessment of the noise of their designs.
  • Simplified measurement protocol to assess the noise of vehicles carrying IPM propulsors.
  • Capabilities for the psychoacoustic analysis of their products.

This KTP is critical to the strategic aim of GreenJets’s capability to design the quietest product in its class by appropriately linking multidisciplinary product design to the acoustic prediction at the design stage.

GreenJets is committed to Research & Innovation, and it is the intention that a permanent post will be made available for the successful applicant on completion of this 30-month project ,which will allow GreenJets to take the next steps to confidently understand what needs to be done to innovate and build a market leading product range.

Skills required: A minimum 2.1 BEng or BSc in Acoustic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline, and demonstrated experience in aeroacoustics.  A Masters or PhD level qualification although desirable is not an essential requirement when applying for this post as the successful candidate will be encouraged to register for a higher degree (fees waived).

Knowledge and experience of aeroacoustics, acoustic engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related engineering field.

Personal attributes: The successful candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently and to tight deadlines within a dynamic team environment.

For full details of the skills and experience required see person specification when applying for this post.
