A little bit about the role and our team

Are you interested in working in a fast-paced research sector with room to progress, and the opportunity to develop a specialist service? Could you use your expertise to deliver engaging workshops and training courses to help people develop skills?

As the Open Research Co-Ordinator (Research Data Management) you will work alongside a small, specialised team with responsibility for co-ordinating the ongoing development and delivery of our Open Research Support service for the University. Our service is centred on early intervention and providing clear and accessible advice to researchers and postgraduate research students at all stages of their career, as well as informing institutional direction and working closely with the open research sector. You can get a sense of our Open Research offer on our website and Twitter account.

We are based within the Library, Careers & Enterprise – a place to learn and share ideas, a virtual hub for research and discovery, a team of friendly faces delivering excellent customer service, and a community of experts playing an important role in teaching, learning, research, and enterprise at Salford. We are innovative, open, collaborative, and people centred.

Our benefits

  1. We offer a competitive salary and excellent pension scheme.
  2. You can enjoy generous annual leave and the ability to buy additional holiday days
  3. We are open to agile ways of working that provide colleagues with flexibility and work-life balance
  4. We actively encourage staff professional development - including training, mentorship and engaging with external networks and events - and are keen to support our staff with their career journey.
  5. Our wellbeing support offers dedicated services and facilities to support your mental and physical health, ranging from an Employee Assistance Programme and counselling to sports and fitness facilities, including discounted gym memberships.
  6. Enjoy Greater Manchester - live and work in one of the most vibrant regions in the UK, a hot spot of digital innovation, excellent schools and colleagues, and with affordable city, suburban and rural living options to suit a wide range of lifestyle choices.

Building a diverse workforce

At Salford, we are working hard to create an inclusive culture where all our students and colleagues can bring their whole selves to the University, and we are therefore striving to build a more diverse workforce. As part of a determined approach to address the current under-representation of colleagues from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people, and men within our team, we welcome and encourage applications from the widest talent pool; if you haven’t considered a career in Higher Education before, we want to hear from you.

Your application

Your application will be assessed based on your responses to a set of competency questions linked to the criteria in the Person Specification within the job description, along with your CV. We want your application to be the best it can be, so make sure you answer each question fully and provide clear examples of how you meet the criteria, and clearly demonstrate your knowledge. Simply stating that you have a skill or experience in an area is not sufficient. You will also be assessed on these criteria during the interview and as part of a presentation exercise.

If you have any questions about the role or the recruitment process, please feel free to contact Jennifer Bayjoo, Academic Support Manager (Research) on j.b.bayjoo@salford.ac.uk. Or, if you would like an informal discussion about the experience of working in our team, you can contact Wendy Taylor, Scholarly Communications Librarian, on w.m.taylor@salford.ac.uk. We are striving to make our recruitment process as inclusive as possible, so if you require any additional accommodations or would like to offer feedback please let us know at any stage.
