A bit about the Student Experience Team…

Student experience is at the heart of everything we do. We engage with our students in a creative customer led, flexible and innovative way, whilst anticipating and responding to the needs of our diverse community. Our Student Experience Team is a high-performing team which has consistently innovated over the years to ensure our model provides an excellent service to students.

We now wish to appoint a Specialist Case Adviser (Hate Crime and Racism) with diverse skills and experiences who will strengthen our team by sharing our passion for providing continuous support to our diverse student community.

So what will the role involve?

  • To be the go-to person to our diverse student community and support students through a range of issues, particularly racism and hate crime. To develop positive relationships with them and ensure that they trust us and understand the range of options available to them.
  • Being 100% customer focussed.
  • Be a specialist in supporting and advising students in cases of racism, microaggressions and hate crime and be a point of contact for colleagues who need advice in this area.
  • Promoting a message of no tolerance to hate, bullying and harassment or sexual violence of any kind to the wider university community.
  • Helping to create policy and guidance that reflects this message.
  • Be involved in collecting evidence and leading on investigations and recruiting inclusive and diverse panels for formal processes.
  • Working with external and internal partners including the Police, to develop improved ways of working together.
  • Targeting areas within our community that may need specialist support or help.
  • Leading on campaigns with our Student Union
  • Contribute to our thinking and be challenging on how Salford can transform the way it addresses equity disparities, embraces diversity and becomes more inclusive

The role requires interaction with students from different cultural backgrounds and with that in mind, it is important that you have experience of working with diverse backgrounds whether that is through your previous work history or in your personal life.

Please contact Arron Pile at a.pile@salford.ac.uk for an informal discussion.

Please ensure you provide evidence in your cover letter/personal statement of how you meet the criteria in the attached Person Specification.

What’s in it for you?

With over 200 languages spoken across Greater Manchester, we want to create an inspirational, inclusive learning and working environment, celebrating the diversity of our University community in our everyday conversations. Our student population is already incredibly diverse and we want to ensure this is reflected across our colleague profile as well.

To help you, we have wide ranging colleague support networks, promoting awareness events throughout the year and giving you the opportunity to share your experiences with others. Our extensive faith centre facilities reflect our continuing commitment to support the student and colleague experience and the beliefs and values you bring to our community.

There is a varied benefits package available through ‘MySalford’ where you can tailor your benefits to suit your own lifestyle – everything from additional annual leave, savings on High Street shopping, travel discounts as well as health and wellbeing support. To maintain work/life balance, when appropriate you can connect to work from wherever you are. Whether it’s our Peel Park Campus, MediaCityUK or your couch at home, the tools are there for you to do your best work. Flexibility on working from home is supported where possible, however the role will be based on the University of Salford Peel Park campus.

However you identify, whatever your pathway has been to get here, come and join us at the University of Salford where we are all proud to belong - watch us in action here!
