Salford - MediaCityUK
School of Arts, Media & Creative Technology
Full Time Permanent

£45,585 - £54,395

The University of Salford takes pride in its local roots, while also being recognized for its excellence in teaching, research and enterprise activity regionally, nationally and internationally. We sit at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse and actively engage with stakeholders across the region and beyond to embed our industry collaboration activity in the curriculum, ensuring our students receive the best possible experience and are fit for their future after graduation.

The School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology is a leading centre for practice-based education in the creative disciplines. Through significant investment in our staff and facilities, we are strengthening our position as a centre of excellence for socially engaged teaching practice and research whose graduates are sought after as content creators and for the innovative application of creative technology, both in the creative industries and across wider sectors of the economy. We have a clear vision to become a top quartile provider of practice-based education in the creative industries, continuing to advance our standing as a destination of choice for students in the UK and internationally.

Our £55 million New Adelphi flagship building offers top-quality specialist equipment and facilities to suit all creative requirements. We are also the only UK university to have a campus at MediaCityUK, an international media hub next to prestigious media organisations such as the BBC, ITV, and Dock10, with industry-standard facilities that offer a professional environment for our staff and students. The School’s activities are organised into four Directorates, currently totalling around 4,800 students: Art and Design; Creative Technology, Journalism, Politics and Contemporary History; Film and Broadcast Media; and Performance, Music, English and Dance.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational lecturer with a thorough understanding of professional industry practice and an established or emerging academic track record. The successful candidate will lead our BA (Hons) Post-production and VFX programme, developing its vision, curriculum and pedagogic design and innovation while also managing the day-to-day running of the programme with the staff team. You will ensure that the programme is informed by industry practices to ensure currency and relevance within the sector, and you will understand the demands across the HE sector with a focus on teaching and scholarship or research activity.

As an excellent team player, communicator and problem solver, you will be able to tackle the complex creative, logistical and technical demands of this programme sitting within our suite of digital and media programmes. The role demands you to be highly organised and hard working with an ability to initiate and develop opportunities in line with the University of Salford’s strategic ambitions for student employability and academic quality outcomes.

The BA (Hons) Post-production and VFX is a practice-based programme, teaching and engaging students through a mix of practice and theory, and encouraging them to work collaboratively with their peers and staff across a range of other subject areas. Currently 60 students are enrolled across all three years of this interactive programme which successfully develops and builds upon industry collaborations with key organisations such as Dock10 and the BBC in relevant areas. Our students regularly secure work experience and external placements, and are often Media Award winners within local, national and international festivals.

This is a full-time permanent position, and the starting salary is £42,149 per annum.
