Who are we looking for?

Do you have a strong academic background in sustainability and a desire to educate and inspire others for a more sustainable future?

We are seeking an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Officer to act as a key champion in ESD across the university. You will ensure that the University has an appropriate strategy for ESD and delivers on its ESD commitments

Here at the University of Salford we recognise that the global environmental challenges faced by humanity are significant. We are committed to supporting global sustainability challenges through our world-leading research, our work with industry, our talented graduates and our green campus. As a pillar of our University Strategy, we are embedding environmental sustainability into all aspects of university life and supporting the Greater Manchester carbon revolution which will transform Greater Manchester into a world-leading, greener, cleaner, climate resilient city.

Reporting to the Director of Sustainability and working alongside the central Sustainability Team the ESD Officer will support the development of and coordinate delivery of the ESD Strategy. You will work closely with colleagues across the University to develop plans for ESD in formal, informal and organisational learning, championing ESD and increase its profile across the University.

To succeed in this role, you will have experience in an academic environment and education for sustainable development, be self-motivated and enthusiastic with a firm commitment to sustainability. Your strong networking and relationship skills will enable you to influence at all levels teams from across the University to support academic and curricular development relating to ESD.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team determined to drive the University Sustainability Strategy and Net Zero Carbon commitment. As a University we are proud of our achievements in environmental sustainability so far; however we recognise there is much to do.

An overarching key aspect of the role is to contribute to our thinking and be challenging on how Salford can transform the way it addresses equity disparities, embraces diversity and becomes more inclusive as well as sustainable.
